Oatmeal Cookies
Ingredients:
1 cup shortening
1 ½ cups brown sugar
2 eggs
½ cup buttermilk
1 3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
½ cup raisins
½ cup chopped walnuts
Directions:
Cream together shortening, brown sugar and eggs until light and fluffy. Stir in buttermilk. Sift together flour, soda, salt, baking powder, and spices; stir into creamed mixture. Stir in rolled oats, raisins and nuts.
Drop from tablespoon 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees about 8 minutes until lightly browned. Cool slightly and remove from pan. Makes about 5 dozen.
