Extra Large Taco Pizza
July 6th 2009 22:14
I made taco salads a couple days ago for supper, and my husband said he'd love a home made pizza topped with the taco meat. So, tonight's supper is an extra large taco pizza! This involves three different recipes: My Favorite Taco Meat, Mom's Pizza Crusts, and Mom's Pizza Sauce (I have A LOT of recipes from my mom - they always are listed as Mom's - though I don't know if she made them up or found them elsewhere. To me, they'll always be mom's!)
My Favorite Taco Meat
1 # ground beef
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Brown ground beef, add seasonings, simmer about 15 minutes till done. Serve as desired.
Mom’s Pizza Crusts (makes 2 - 12" or 1 extra large)
1 cup Water
1 tablespoon Oil
2 ½ cup All-purpose Flour
1 teaspoon Salt
2 ½ teaspoon Yeast
Place ingredients in bread maker in the proper order.
Set machine to DOUGH cycle (about 1 ½ hours)
When finished, dump dough into greased bowl, cover and chill in refrigerator for about 2 hours or more.
Divide dough in half. Roll each half to 12” circle about 1/8” thick. Place on pans and crimp edges. Brush with 1 T oil. Top and bake at 400-425 about 20 minutes.
(Mom adds all toppings but mozzarella, bakes 20 min – then adds the cheese and bakes 5 minutes longer)
Mom’s Pizza Sauce
½ cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic
2 tablespoon oil
----- cook until tender and add -----
1 can tomato paste
2 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon oregano
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
----- simmer until done; spread over pizza crust and top with desired toppings -----
For this meal, the desired toppings are the taco meat from above, about 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, and one cup of shredded colby jack cheese, 1/2 cup diced tomatoes, and 1 small onion sliced thin - separated into rings to top the pizza.
Bake as directed above. If desired, add shredded lettuce and diced avocado after baking.
I actually doubled the dough recipe and made 2 - 12" pepperoni pizzas for the kids, as well.
